IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage engine introduces new solid state device options

For enterprises seeking to improve the cost effectiveness, flexibility, productivity, and availability of their storage infrastructure, the IBM® System Storage® SAN Volume Controller (SVC) provides a combined hardware and software storage virtualization system designed to centralize and consistently manage and operate heterogeneous storage environments.

The SVC Solution can help:

  • Simplify storage infrastructures and reduce costs by combining the capacity from multiple disk storage systems into pools, which are more simply managed from a central point
  • Get more out of existing storage assets by improving utilization, automating, and provisioning, and by making storage more accessible to host applications
  • Improve administrator productivity
  • Avoid storage-related causes of application downtime, including data migrations

IBM System Storage SVC models CG8 and CF8 offer two new drive types to expand its line of 2.5-inch small form factor (SFF) drive options:

  • 200 GB 2.5-inch SSD (E-MLC)
  • 400 GB 2.5-inch SSD (E-MLC)
