Recently, I sat down with my friend and our IBM Storage Vice President and Business Line Executive, Sidney Chow, to discuss last month’s EMC XtremIO announcement. Sidney is responsible for IBM’s high end storage portfolio, which includes IBM XIV.
We discussed the history of IBM investments in the XIV grid architecture storage offering, Flash storage offerings, and our vision for the importance of Data Economics for our clients; and also of how they shy away from trusting their data to unproven, new technology and want something they know will perform.
The more we talked about the XtremIO debut, and how it finally “joined the party,” Sidney decided he’d like to formulate his thoughts on the matter into a ‘letter’ to EMC. Here’s what he had to say….
