Why there’s no power button on the Pure Storage FlashArray

At Pure Storage we’re pretty serious about challenging and re-thinking conventional wisdom in the storage space.  One of the simplest and best illustrations of this is the lack of a big power button (a.k.a. shut-down procedure) on the FlashArray.  In traditional storage arrays shutting down the storage array is kind of a big, scary, fingers-crossed kind of deal (believe it or not, some vendors make you engage their support/professional services so they can shut it down, it’s so risky). We thought this was ridiculous, so we challenged ourselves to completely change the paradigm.  But how and why would you design an array without a big shutdown procedure?  Read and find out…
